RAINY DAYS EXPLORATION!
TERRA VIVA WALKABOUTS AND NATURE EXPLORATION ON RAINY DAYS!
Exploring our surroundings and the natural local beauty of Port Dalhousie is a major component of our Nature Curriculum.
Spring is the season of renewal, resurrection, the awakening of nature after her long sleep, and of course, it is a season of a lot of RAIN!
Terra Viva's outdoor policy support children's interaction with the elements and the wetaher. Our children love spending the time outside on sunny, rainy and cloudy days during the Spring season.
How do I prepare my child for a rainy day?
Here are some essential tips for all our parents to better support and understand our Rain of shine philosophy.
1. RAIN, RAIN COME AGAIN!
At Terra Viva schools we instill the love for the rain! Talking to your children about the rain in a positive way will immensely help children to be open for exploration on a rainy day and to have an optimistic outlook for all kinds of weather.
When it rains, refrain from saying things to your child such us this:
"what a miserable rainy day!" or "The weather is awful!"
Instead say:
"What a perfect day to play in the puddles!"
"The best thing we can do when it rains is to let it rain!"
2. THERE IS NOT SUCH A THING AS BAD WEATHER BUT BAD CLOTHING!
What kind of clothing does my child need to stay warm and dry when playing in the rain?
When choosing rain gear I suggest you always go for waterproof clothing from top to button!
Here are some links where you can buy good quality rain gear that last for long and supports 100% your child's wet play!
3. What to bring on a rainy and cold day?
Send extras! Make sure your child has plenty of clothes in her cubicle to change into.
- Extra Shoes
- Extra socks
- Extra set of pants
- Long sleeve shirts
- Underwear.
WATERPROOF ITEMS:
- Splash pants (Walmart splash pants are not suitable!!!)
- Rain boots or waterproof running shoes
- Waterproof play-suit to go on top of the jacket and splash pants
- Poncho or umbrella (optional)

Peace and rain!
